The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success acknowledges Indigenous peoples across Australia as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the nation’s campuses are situated. With a history spanning more than 60,000 years as the original educators, Indigenous peoples hold a unique place in our nation. We recognise the importance of their knowledge and culture, and reflect the principles of participation, equity, and cultural respect in our work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future, and consider it an honour to learn from our Indigenous colleagues, partners, and friends.

A student from AIME’s Curtin University program has made it into the top 100 in AIME’s The Other Election campaign, dedicated to finding Australia’s first Indigenous Prime Minister.

Kearyn Cox, a year 11 student from Guildford Grammar School in Western Australia, is currently sitting at 7th place nationally. Should Kearyn win enough votes this week to remain in the top 10, he and his parents will be flown across to Fox Studios in Sydney to work with his mentor and industry experts in order to professionally re-record his speech as the first Indigenous PM.

The country’s top 3 finalists will win the opportunity to fly to Canberra and deliver their speeches in Parliament.

The Other Election showcases over 700 Indigenous students in years 10-12 delivering their speeches as the first Indigenous Prime Minister. These 700 teenagers wrote, rehearsed, and recorded their speeches in just two hours. Given a lifetime, imagine what’s possible.

AIME has been in operation since 2005, and stands for Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience. AIME’s focus is “young people helping young people”, and to date the organisation’s initiatives have helped over 2,000 Indigenous high school students and 1,000 university students across Australia to finish school. It is AIME’s vision to help 10,000 Indigenous students by 2016.
