About the Role:
 
The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success (ACSES) is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Communications Officer (Publishing) to edit, proofread, and prepare reports, fact sheets, and other documents for release across our digital and print platforms. Working closely with the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Manager, you will also contribute to wider communications activities, including content development, digital updates, and event coordination and promotion, helping to amplify ACSES research and policy impact.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Edit, proofread, and format research reports, discussion papers, and related publications
  • Prepare documents for web and print release, ensuring accessibility and style compliance
  • Upload and publish reports on the ACSES website, drafting supporting web content
  • Develop clear and engaging communications content for a range of channels, including newsletters, social media, and web pages
  • Support Communications and Stakeholder Engagement activities such as campaign planning and event coordination and communication
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to produce clear, engaging outputs

Who we are looking for:

  • Strong editing and proofreading skills, with a sharp eye for detail
  • Experience preparing documents for digital and print publication (Word, PDF, accessibility standards)
  • Excellent written communication skills, able to translate complex research into plain English
  • Ability to craft clear, audience-appropriate communications content for multiple channels
  • Organisational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • A collaborative approach and ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders

Desirable: Familiarity with higher education or research publishing, knowledge of equity issues, and experience with WordPress and graphic design and content creation software.

Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, your application should clearly address the following selection criteria:
Essential

  1. Demonstrated experience in editing, proofreading, and preparing documents for publication, with knowledge of formatting, accessibility, and style standards.
  2. Strong written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex research into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences.
  3. Experience developing communications content for digital or stakeholder channels (for example, newsletters, web content, and social media)
  4. Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise work, and meet tight deadlines with attention to detail.
  5. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders in a team environment.

Desirable:

  1. Familiarity with higher education or research publishing and knowledge of equity issues in higher education.
  2. Experience with WordPress or other content management systems.
  3. Experience with graphic design and content creation software (for example, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).
  4. Experience in event support, including planning, promotion, and execution.

Role Requirements:

  1. As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
