The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success acknowledges Indigenous peoples across Australia as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the nation’s campuses are situated. With a history spanning more than 60,000 years as the original educators, Indigenous peoples hold a unique place in our nation. We recognise the importance of their knowledge and culture, and reflect the principles of participation, equity, and cultural respect in our work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future, and consider it an honour to learn from our Indigenous colleagues, partners, and friends.

You are reading: Visit from Australia Awards Fellow Prof Larysa Klymanska

The ACSES team had the pleasure to be introduced to Australia Awards Fellow, Professor Larysa Klymanska from Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU), Ukraine last week. Professor Larysa is currently spending eight weeks at Curtin University in Perth as part of her Australia Awards Fellowship. She is collaborating with Dr Tetiana Bogachenko and Dr Jia White from the Curtin University School of Education on the project “Supporting disability equity through inclusive education in the settings of displacement in Ukraine and Australia”.

Professor Larysa shared with the team some of the impressive work her, her colleagues, and the students at the Department of Sociology and Social Work at LPNU are already doing to support students with disabilities while raising awareness about the need for more inclusive education. She is hoping to not only learn about the lived experiences of students with disabilities in Australia during her visit, but to find out more about the tools and technologies available here that she may be able to implement in her home country.

Thank you Professor Larysa, Tetiana, and Jia for making time for a visit to the ACSES offices. We wish you well with the important work that you are undertaking and look forward to future exchanges!
