The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success acknowledges Indigenous peoples across Australia as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the nation’s campuses are situated. With a history spanning more than 60,000 years as the original educators, Indigenous peoples hold a unique place in our nation. We recognise the importance of their knowledge and culture, and reflect the principles of participation, equity, and cultural respect in our work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future, and consider it an honour to learn from our Indigenous colleagues, partners, and friends.

About

The ACSES Visiting Scholars Program aims to support the establishment of linkages and collaborative research projects between higher education equity researchers and the Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success (ACSES).

The Visiting Scholars Program furthers the strategic aims of the ACSES Research and Policy Program:

  • Building capacity. To support the best researchers, practitioners, and policymakers at all career stages to examine diverse issues in higher education student equity, at various timepoints of the higher education lifecycle.
  • Policy engagement. To work with researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to translate research findings into tangible policy and practice outcomes.
  • Exemplify the conduct of research. To conduct high-quality research on strategic priorities in-house and in partnership with leading and promising individuals in the field.

Each ACSES Visiting Scholarship is valued at up to AUD$9,000 for domestic (Australia-based) applicants and up to AUD$12,000 for international applicants. Funds provided are to cover the significant costs associated with the scholarship’s residency component:

  1. including travel to ACSES’s offices at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, and
  2. accommodation at or near the university.

Scholars will be hosted for visits between 30 and 60 days in the second half of 2025 and will have access to a dedicated workspace, the Curtin University library, supportive ACSES team, and computing facilities on request. Applicants who cannot undertake a residency of this duration due to work, care, or other reasons may negotiate a shorter visit.

Scholarships are open to Australian and international researchers with a higher degree or equivalent professional or community experience and a track record or the potential to develop a track record of higher education policy and equity research. Applicants should also have demonstrated experience in higher education policy and equity, such as research publications or external grant success, or other demonstrated outcomes and impact as appropriate.

Applications for the ACSES Visiting Scholars Program 2025 close at 4pm (AWST) on Friday, 29 November 2024, and outcomes will be announced in late January 2025.
