Let's talk uni: supported VET to university transitions

On average, 15 per cent of the University of Western Sydney’s (UWS) commencing students have previously engaged in VET studies and referenced their studies within university applications. Whilst these students are highly likely to continue into second-year if they complete their first semester, many continue to drop out within their first four weeks. In order to provide students with more support during their transition from VET to university, UWS has established an event designed to lessen the “culture shock” of entering university.

Let’s Talk Uni: a university introduction and preparation seminar for VET and private college students provides participants with a tailored introduction to life at UWS. Students are introduced to university staff, enabling the early formation of relationships, and provided with a sense of what to expect when beginning their studies. In this free webinar, Presenter Rose Cutts (UWS) and Facilitator Laura O’Connor (NCVER), along with Jillian Blacker (USQ) and Professor Louise Watson (University of Canberra) discuss the pilot program and why it is now an annual fixture on the UWS calendar.
