The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success acknowledges Indigenous peoples across Australia as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the nation’s campuses are situated. With a history spanning more than 60,000 years as the original educators, Indigenous peoples hold a unique place in our nation. We recognise the importance of their knowledge and culture, and reflect the principles of participation, equity, and cultural respect in our work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future, and consider it an honour to learn from our Indigenous colleagues, partners, and friends.

Event information

With graduates expecting high-quality access to Work Integrated Learning, universities and industry must adapt to student needs in order to increase employability outcomes. There is clearly a gap between what employers are expecting and what universities are providing, with the number of graduates finding full-time employment within four months of finishing their degrees falling from a high of 85.2 per cent in 2008 to 72.9 per cent in 2018. For some degrees, however, the rate is as low as 52.2 per cent.

With this in mind, the Graduate Employability Summit has been developed to discuss strategies to respond to skills shortages and changes in the labor market through industry engagement programs, graduate employability focused curriculums and vocational education training pathways.

Key discussion points will include:

    • creating a culture that values work integrated learning and the soft, transferrable skills it provides
    • integrating Work Integrated Learning into the curriculum to increase graduate employability outcomes
    • providing students with educational opportunities that adapt to the modern workforce and are flexible with students needs.
