The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success acknowledges Indigenous peoples across Australia as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the nation’s campuses are situated. With a history spanning more than 60,000 years as the original educators, Indigenous peoples hold a unique place in our nation. We recognise the importance of their knowledge and culture, and reflect the principles of participation, equity, and cultural respect in our work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future, and consider it an honour to learn from our Indigenous colleagues, partners, and friends.

Event information

Celebrating learning is at the heart of the Children’s University!

The Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher Education and the University of Newcastle would like to invite you to celebrate with the children and their families on this very special occasion.

The ceremony is being held to recognise the achievements of students and their families throughout the year and to celebrate the impact that education and learning can have on individuals.

In 2017, almost 1000 children will be graduating across three different ceremonies to be held on 30 October, 31 October and 2 November 2017, from 5.30pm – 8.30pm.

After the formal ceremony, dinner and entertainment will be provided at the Brennan Room in the Shortland Hub.

About Children’s University Newcastle

The Children’s University Newcastle at the Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher Education encourages children to be curious about their world. The program recognises learning opportunities outside the classroom and without the constraints of curriculum.

Children are given a passport to learning and encouraged to travel with this passport to learning destinations in their local area which could include the art gallery, library, museum or university.
After completing the validated learning experience, children have this learning acknowledged with a stamp in their passport.

Once students have reached 30 hours of validated learning they are invited to attend a graduation ceremony at the University of Newcastle just like other university students.
