The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success (ACSES) invites you to the first Equity Hub Community of Practice (CoP) event for 2025. The CoP aims to bring student equity managers and staff together to provide an opportunity for practitioners to share their lessons learned and best practices on evaluation in the context of SEHEEF.
At this event, our colleagues Sonal Singh and Sarah Ellis from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) will present on their newly embedded U@Uni Academy and First Year Success (FYS) programs. After discussing the history and aims of these programs, the presentation will outline how the program has been tested and evaluated, some of the challenges or learnings when undertaking this work, and key findings.
In the second part of the session, participants will be provided an opportunity to work together to identify and share ways in which this case study, and the trials presented at the previous day’s Equity Frontiers Forum may be contextualised and applied to their own universities and programs.
Sonal Singh is a senior leader in higher education equity, currently the Executive Manager of Student Equity at the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion at UTS. With over 15 years of experience, she has spearheaded transformative initiatives that enhance access, participation, and success for underrepresented students at Macquarie University and now at UTS.
Sarah Ellis is the Manager Student Success & Strategy (Student Equity) at UTS and has over 12 years experience working in the higher education sector in the direct provision of academic support and in leading the strategic planning for student equity initiatives. Over this period, Sarah has led the implementation of outreach programs that aim to increase the participation of students from identified priority groups in higher education.
