The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success acknowledges Indigenous peoples across Australia as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the nation’s campuses are situated. With a history spanning more than 60,000 years as the original educators, Indigenous peoples hold a unique place in our nation. We recognise the importance of their knowledge and culture, and reflect the principles of participation, equity, and cultural respect in our work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future, and consider it an honour to learn from our Indigenous colleagues, partners, and friends.

The Australian Centre for Student Equity and Success (ACSES) is pleased to invite researchers, practitioners, and policymakers at all career stages to apply for an ACSES Visiting Scholarship.

ACSES Visiting Scholarships are aimed at producing and supporting collaborative research projects between ACSES and higher education equity researchers and contributing to the strategic goals of ACSES’s Research and Policy Program.

Each ACSES Visiting Scholarship is valued at up to AUD$9,000 for domestic (Australia-based) applicants and up to AUD$12,000 for international applicants. Funds provided are to cover the significant costs associated with the scholarship’s residency component:

  1. including travel to ACSES’s offices at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, and,
  2. accommodation at or near the university.

Scholars will be hosted for visits between 30 and 60 days and will have access to a dedicated workspace, the Curtin University library and supportive ACSES team, and computing facilities on request. Applicants who cannot undertake a residency of this duration due to work, care or other reasons may negotiate a shorter visit.

Scholarships are open to Australian and international researchers with a higher degree or equivalent professional or community experience and a track record or the potential to develop a track record of higher education policy and equity research.

ACSES Research and Policy Program Director Professor Ian Li said the scholarships would advance research in student equity and encourage interested parties to engage with ACSES in a mutually beneficial way.

“We are keen to partner with experts nationally or internationally to work on initiatives that will widen participation and improve outcomes in higher education equity” Professor Li said.

“Efforts to progress on higher education student equity will require diverse input from researchers, policy-makers, and practitioners, and we would like to draw on the range of expertise available from like-minded individuals.”

ACSES Visiting Scholarships applications close at 4pm (AWST) on FRIDAY 7 June 2024, and outcomes will be announced in late-June 2024.
