UTS webinar — The Inclusivity Experiment: Promoting inclusive practice in the classroom

The Inclusivity Experiment is an initiative built to challenge conventional ways of thinking about inclusivity and to make ethical and inclusive design easier for everyone. They have run a series of events to connect people interested in advancing inclusive design, and to prototype new inclusive design practices on a small scale. Learning and teaching environments can have a great impact on individuals’ ability to thrive and achieve their potential. This event will explore the small changes people can make to their everyday teaching practice to make their learning environments more engaging and accessible for all students.

In this webinar, Arif Ongu from the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion will introduce the idea of social models of disability. Zozan Balci from the School of Communications will share a personal history activity she runs with her students in Week One. This activity helps students to understand that these are valuable experiences that we all bring to our learning and that enrich the classroom experience. Lien Pham from the Graduate Research School will share a skills audit survey that she gives to her international postgraduate students. This helps to identify what skills they feel they need to develop further and helps them to set personal goals and matches them with appropriate services that are available to them.
