The National Disability Coordination Officer (NDCO) Program will present a webinar on 29 April with Daniel Valiente-Riedl, General Manager, JobAccess at WorkFocus Australia and Allana Bianchi, Manager, Workforce Futures and Inclusion, Queensland Public Service Commission.


National data demonstrates that for both university and TAFE graduates, having a disability is correlated with a lower employment rate post-study. Several factors may be contributing to this gap, including the lack of knowledge or awareness of available supports for students with disability during the critical phase of applying for graduate roles and entering into employment.

University and TAFE career practitioners are one of the top sources for students to secure graduate roles and play a vital role in bridging the employment gap. This webinar will explore the range of supports that can be utilised by career practitioners to help graduates with disability navigate the complexities of looking for and getting a job.

JobAccess will discuss:

  • the free supports and services available through JobAccess to assist graduates with disability during their job search and starting a new role
  • the range of workplace adjustments and modifications that may be funded by the Employment Assistance Fund to support people with disability
  • tips on how graduates with disability can apply for roles with inclusive employers and prepare for interviews
  • when to share information about disability with employers.

The webinar will feature a special segment, “What happens if I tell you?”, where the Queensland Public Service Commission, Workforce Futures and Inclusion will share their perspective on interviewing, hiring and working with graduates with disability.

About the speakers

Daniel Valiente-Riedl, General Manager, JobAccess at WorkFocus Australia

Daniel has over 15 years of experience working in the disability sector. During this time, he has worked in the areas of mental health, intellectual, developmental, acquired and physical disability. Currently the General Manager for JobAccess, Daniel manages a team delivering this award-winning service on behalf of the Australian Government.

JobAccess is the national hub for workplace and employment information for people with disability, employers and service providers. It includes the JobAccess Employer Engagement Team which helps larger employers build disability confidence and access the talents of people with disability.

Allana Bianchi, Manager, Workforce Futures and Inclusion, Queensland Public Service Commission

Allana has experience in the disability sector, working as a family support officer for a Queensland disability provider for over seven years. She has more recently led the inclusion and diversity portfolio for Queensland Government for over two years. A key project that has been undertaken during that time is to try and improve the experiences of people with disability in the public sector workforce. In addition to looking at improving the experience of existing employees, the work life cycle is also being explored and improved — from recruiting through to developing those who identify as having disability. In her role, Allana works closely with public sector agencies and a sector-wide Inclusion and Diversity Community of Practice.
